My eBooks are travel biographies of the observations and experiences of a totally blind and partially deaf man as he travels independently around the world having exciting adventures. The most recent volume, Seeing a Slice of Southern Africa My Way, published 31 December 2020, is a journey of continued self-discovery as I plot my way from multi-cultural South Africa with its complex society, to Malawi, with its picturesque and peaceful nature. This third book takes the reader through parts of Southern Africa, and offers a brief glimpse into a little of Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Blog post / Spanish story (27th May 2008)

Spain — Part 1 My first trip to Spain coincided with Christmas and New Year 2007-08. It was mostly a quiet affair. I met up with friends from Cuba in Madrid, where it was cold and rained most of the time, typical weather I’m informed for Madrid in December. I did the usual tourist things, walked the streets, visited the many squares, strolled passed the palace walls and went for a paddle in the lake in the large attractive park. Read more →

Blind student earns medical degree, sees no limits

This was sent to me by a good friend, Ryan Monahan
Any feedback is welcome
Tony

“When Life Was Full There Was No History”

“In the age when life on earth was full, no one paid any special
attention to worthy men, nor did they single out the man of ability.
Rulers were simply the highest branches on the tree, and the people
were like deer in the woods.

Blog post / Living in the moment (15th May 2008)

Living in the Moment.

When Jimi Hendrix set his guitar on fire at the end of his gig in Monterey, California in Spring 1967, he began the ‘Summer of Love’ and started something electric. He blazed through four years of psychedelia before his sudden demise in October 1970. However, in that short period he left his mark on the world as he ‘lived in the moment.’

Although I have not set the world alight in quite the same fashion,

Iceland essay — Part 2

The only place to be is on the road.

Meeting people and having fun is what we do!

My second week in Iceland was mind blowing — an experience never to be forgotten.

Ryan, the young but mature American I had met, and I hit the road for a drive around Iceland’s coast on a journey of inspiration and soul enlightenment. For me,

Blog post / The Tornado Nobody Saw! (14th May 2008)

It happened quietly, almost unexpectedly. A gentle gust which got gradually stronger until we were swept off our feet. However, there were so few who witnessed it we called it the tornado that nobody saw. When it was over we were left breathless.

I was in the US when it occurred, travelling as usual. However, I was not in the dustball of Oklahoma or the flat lands of Kansas like you might expect,

Blog post / Nearing the end of travels for now! (17th April 2008)

Hi all, its Tonythetraveller. I have just finished another amazing trip. It lasted eight weeks and took in most of the east coast of Canada and some of the US. I visited Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland in Canada, thus completing a visit to all of Canada’s 10 Provinces. Before that I was in beautiful Norway. What a country! The most expensive in the world! This was proved to me when I had to take a taxi to the airport which is in the middle of nowhere.
