Guinea-Bissau, November 2024

Tony is inside a large traditional Guinea-Bissau wooden boat, known as a Pirogue. He is beginning his 4-hour journey from Bissau’s busy port to Bubaque, the largest island of the Bijagos Archipelago, some 30 or so kilometres from the mainland. The boat’s loud, smelly engined can be heard and many local people are talking and shouting in the Creal language of Guinea-Bissau. Enjoy the sight and sound.
Tony is sitting on the edge of one side of a truck as it speeds away from the port on Bubaque, the largest and main island of the Bijagos Archipelago. The camera can be seen moving and jumping around as Tony is bounced up and down as the truck moves at speed over the bumpy and pot-holed terrain. An exciting ride! Some of the areas surroundings maybe in view. The Bijagos are a group of about 18 inhabited islands off the coast of Guinea-Bissau. A former Portuguese coloney. The islands are semi-autonomous and traditional ways of life largely continues on many of the islands.
