Miles Rogers and Duran Duran concert at Powderham Castle, Devon

Evening of Thursday 3rd July 2025

Looking towards a large outdoor stage with colourful banners that read 'Live at Powderham Castle' at the sides. A big crowd has formed on the grass in front. People are gathered for a Miles Rogers and Duran Duran concert at Powderham Castle, which is a historical and private mansion/castle near Exeter, in south-west England. At the sides of the stage are coaches and tents with trees beyond. The sky is hazy blue with a clouds towards the horizon. In the foreground people are sitting in front of a metal barrier.

Another photo from the concert at Powderham Castle. A large mature tree is illuminated with multi-coloured lights in the darkness. Other strings of lights on poles are illuminating the site. Dispersed groups of people are sitting at tables or on the grass. There are large tents in the background.

Teign Heritage Centre, Teignmouth, Devon

Friday, 4th July 2025

Photos taken at Teign Heritage Centre which includes Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum. The heritage centre is situated in an 18th century merchant’s house. The museum first opened in July 1978 and following years of fundraising an extension was opened in May 2011. The museum explores the fascinating heritage of the local area and also hosts events and workshops

Tony touching an old cannon inside Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum (Teign Heritage Centre). The cannon is part of a display about the Church Rocks Wreck in the Sea Gallery. In 1975, the first of six bronze cannons was found by Simon Burton, a local 13 year old, while snorkelling in the area. This cannon was a medium-sized ‘saker’ cannon bearing the initials of the Venetian gunmaker Sigmund Alberghetti. Two further guns (‘minions’) and three swivel guns were subsequently found, all in remarkable condition. The wreck the cannons came from dated from the 16th century and was found 200 yards off the beach at Teignmouth opposite St Michael’s Church. All the artifacts found are on display in the museum. At present significant parts of the ship remain on the seabed, buried under the sand. An information board behind includes a large photo of the boy who found the cannon wearing a life jacket and snorkelling gear.

Looking along a narrow gallery with display cases down the sides. At the far end Tony is touching a medium-sized gun mounted on a brass stand that allows it to be quickly swivelled round towards a target. This is the Peronne Gun which was recovered from a wreck six miles off Teignmouth in 1993. It belonged to a merchant ship called the Peronne which was torpedoed and sank during World War One on 1st September 1917. At that time ships were obliged to carry defensive armoury and travel in convoy to avoid the German submarines. The one and a half ton gun has been restored and loaned to the museum.

Tony in the upstairs room of Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum. He is next to a framed poster advertising two concerts by the rock band Muse that took place at Teignmouth Pier on 4th and 5th September 2009. The poster is titled "A Seaside Rendezvous" and has an historic stylised design depicting the pavilion on Teignmouth Grand Pier. Muse formed in Teignmouth in 1994. There is also a smaller frame on the wall that contains photos and a signed concert ticket likely from one of the same concerts.

Tony in the same room as before alongside a colourful stained-glass panel hanging in a window. The panel depicts a red and white lighthouse with the sea, hills and blue sky in the background. Words around the edge read: "In memory of all those who gave their lives in Teignmouth & Shaldon lest we forget". This could be memorial to locals who died in the World Wars or one to lifeboat personnel. The room is part of the museum, but is also used as a community and event space.

Tony beside an old 19th century bicycle on display in Teign Heritage Centre. A sign in front reads 'Velocipede known as a boneshaker'. Velocipede was the name used by manufacturers for early bicycles and tricycles typically made until the 1880s. The name boneshaker comes from the extremely uncomfortable bumpy ride given on this type of bicycle which had wooden wheels with tyres typically made from iron. The frame is made from wrought iron and the pedals are directly attached to the front wheel. The front wheel is a bit bigger than the back wheel, but this is not a penny-farthing, where the difference in wheel size is much greater.

A traditional Punch and Judy puppet theatre booth at Teignmouth and Shaldon Museum (Teign Heritage Centre). The booth is decorated in red and white stripes with gold trim, and the top has a sign that reads "Punch & Judy", along with a crest that includes the words "That's the way to do it!" Tony is stood behind the booth, visible through the opening, and he is holding two puppets: one appears to be Punch and the other is the crocodile. A long string of sausages are dangling from the front of the booth: this is a classic prop in Punch and Judy shows.
